Hoobie Calcutta

Rules for Calcutta:

  1. Buyer of a team has to offer at least 50% to the team, should they wish to purchase any of their team.  The team is not required to buy any of itself.  Each member of the team has the option of sharing equally with other team members in the portion purchased by the team, but is not required to do so.
  2. Should the team choose to buy part of itself, they must pay the buyer of the team prior to teeing off.  Failure to do so releases the buyer from selling a portion to the team and thereby allows the buyer to either keep the team for himself or selling to another party.
  3. Ties for the prizes awarded in the Calcutta (1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th places).  The choice whether or not to have a playoff on the course will be made by the BUYERS of the teams involved and not by the players on the teamIf the buyers of the team sell more than 50% of the team, he forfeits his right to choose if there is a payoff or divide the money to the team.  The buyers, provided they did not sell more than 50% of the team, may elect to play off on the course or choose to divide the money.
  4. Ties for 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th place will be from the score card.  The sequence will be the back nine, the last 6 holes on back nine, the last three holes on back nine and, if still tied, going backward from hole 18 until a winner is determined by sudden death on the card.

Rules of Play:

  1. Rain/Weather:  The Rules Committee shall determine conclusion of play for the day.  In the event of lightning, the Pines will determine if the course is closed; if only rain, the Rules Committee will make the final decision.  Any 9 holes completed shall constitute a legal round for the day.  The side of play (front vs back or which holes were played will count the same regardless of which 9 holes a team played)
  2. Moving the Ball:  The ball is to be marked by the team captain only.  All balls may be lifted, cleaned and placed within one club length, no closer to the hole.  The conditions may not be changed (if you play a ball in a hazard, all balls must be played from the hazard; likewise if the team chooses to play a ball from the rough, all players must place their ball in the rough to play their shot.
  3. Putting:   The ball must be holed.   There are no gimmies.  DO NOT HOLE YOUR FINAL PUTT; ONCE THE BALL IS IN THE HOLE, THE SCORE FOR THAT HOLE IS FINAL.  DO NOT TAP IN A SHORT PUTT SO YOUR OTHER TEAM MEMBERS CAN HAVE A “FREE RUN” AT THE HOLE.
  4. RULES COMMITTEE:  Any decision made by the Rules Committee is final and there will be NO APPEAL of a Rules Committee decision.  The Rules Committee consists of David Twiford, Jordan Cullens and Dwayne Crank.
  5. Substitution of Players:  In the event of a “no show” by a player, the Rules Committee shall have the option of selecting a substitute player.  Every effort will be made to find a golfer of similar skill level.  The team &/or the buyer may not appeal the player selected.  If a player acceptable to the Rules Committee cannot be found, the team must play with the players present.  There will not be an extra shot given to players on the team to compensate for the missing player.

Notes:

Ties for Places 1 through 4 may be decided by play on the course, at the option of the Buyers.  Ties for places 5 – 7 and 8th place will be decided on the card, using the method given earlier in rules.

If your team wins in the Calcutta, they cannot participate in the Pines Gift Certificates (other than closest to pin).  For example if your team is tied for 4th with other teams, and the buyers choose to split the Calcutta, your team would not be eligible to win one of the Pines Certificates for Places 5 through 8.  Your team could actually receive less in monies than would be awarded in gift certificates to a higher finishing team, depending on the number of teams dividing the Calcutta and % of ownership by the players.

  1.  All teams will have fivesomes
  2.   No Mulligans
  3.   All men 74 and under will play from white tees; 75+ will play from    green tees
  4.   Women will play from red tees
